The project, carried out by the Mohammed VI Foundation for the integration of prisoners for an investment of 3.7 million dirhams, will be devoted to supporting former detainees in reintegrating their family and socio-professional life. It comprises workshops for job search and enterprise creation to be moderated by the national agency for the promotion of employment and competences and Attawfik Micro Finance.
Like those already operational in Salé, Casablanca, Agadir, Oujda, Marrakech and Fès, the Tangiers post-correctional support center will target former detainees who have a personal post-detention project, developed on the basis of a diagnostic with the specialized staff during the detention period. The service tends to endow detainees with skills and know-how likely to guarantee effective reintegration in social and the labor market.
In 2013, a total of 10,408 detainees, including 665 women, have benefited from the social workers support and supervision in Morocco’s correctional centers.
In the same period, 7.128 detainees were given a chance to carry on their studies and 1,690 were able to go back to university studies while 6,590 received a vocational training and 508 detainees took agriculture classes.
During the 2012-2013 period, post-correctional support centers nationwide have supervised the launching of 769 self-employment micro-projects, found jobs for 1,203 former prisoners in partner enterprises and enrol 700 young detainees in the training centers of the Office of vocational training and employment promotion.
In addition, they are credited for reintegrating 428 minors in the school system after their release.
The efficiency of the socio-professional reintegration strategy is appraised by the recidivism rate which did not exceed 2.99pc in 2013.
On this occasion, HM the King handed baccalaureate and Master success certificates to former detainees as well as cheques and various equipment, worth 500,000 DH, to former detainees who have projects.
A budget of 2 million dirhams was allocated, with the support of the National human development initiative, in 2013 for projects allowing recipients of post-correctional services in Tangiers to access the labor and self-employment markets.
