The year 2013 was marked by important actions by the said Foundation, mainly providing therapy for over 15,000 poor patients and building two centers for gynecologic and breast oncology, the Sheikha Fatma center at the National Oncology Institute (INO) in Rabat and the cancer treatment department at the Casablanca Mohammed VI center.
These facilities are the first of their kind in Africa for women's cancer treatment and which provide not only medical care, but also training and research.
After the presentation of the narrative and financial reports by the board of directors and the examining of the auditor's report, the members, donors and partners approved the accounts of the year 2013 and related resolutions.
Afterwards, Her Royal Highness chaired the signing of several partnership agreements. The first was signed by the Foundation, the Rabat-Salé-Zemmour-Zaer region and the Health Ministry.
This partnership is meant to improve health care for cancer patients in the region through purchasing medicine and equipment, and building and revamping the relating facilities. The 211.7 mln MAD-agreement will two span years (2014-2016), with a contribution by the Foundation of up to 67% (143.8 mln MAD).
The second agreement, signed by the Foundation, the Greater Casablanca region and the Health Ministry, extends the exemplary partnership initiated in 2007 and which starts today its third phase. It concerns buying medicine and equipment, and building and revamping health care facilities. The 236.10 mln MAD-agreement will span two years (2014-2016), with a contribution by the Foundation of up to 69% (162.10 mln MAD).
The third agreement was signed by the WHO International Agency for Research on Cancer, represented by its director Doctor Christopher Wild. Spanning three years, the agreement touches on training and the development of cancer research in Morocco and throughout Africa.
The fourth agreement was inked by the Foundation and the Professional Association of Morocco's Cement Manufacturers to build three centers for breast and uterine cancer early detection and purchase three linear accelerators for public oncology centers. The agreement worth 45 mln dirhams will span three years (2014-2017).
During this ceremony, HRH Princess Lalla Salma received ambassadors of friendly African countries to affirm the Foundation's support to fight cancer.
