At her arrival at the Institute, HRH Princess Lalla Salma was greeted by Prince Charles-Philippe of Orléans and his spouse, president of the Portuguese anti-cancer league (LPCC) Francisco Cavaleiro de Ferreira, president of the Portuguese Oncology Institute of Lisbon Francisco Ramos and other figures.
On this occasion, HRH Princess Lalla Salma followed a presentation by the LPCC president, in which he surveyed the facility, its mission and actions conducted by the League for cancer patients.
HRH Princess Lalla Salma toured, afterwards, the pediatric oncology ward where she was given details by the hospital director, Dr. Joao Oliveira, concerning the facility's wards and equipment.
Her Royal Highness visited some children suffering from cancer and wished them swift recovery.
Since its inception in 1923, the Portuguese Oncology Institute of Lisbon was tasked with the mission of fighting cancer and offering health care, in addition to its involvement in education and research.
The LPCC, set up in 1941, provides social support for patients and defends their rights. It also disseminates information and raise awareness on cancer and on the prevention of oncological diseases.
