The garden was inaugurated in June 2013 by HM King Mohammed VI after major redevelopment works.
On this occasion, landscape architect Carey Duncan presented to Her Royal Highness the situation of the garden and the assembly of the project, its insertion in its urban context with planning proposal, as well as the botanical components.
For his part, architect Mohamed Kamal Ouanaim presented to HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa the projected greenhouses, buildings and public reception areas as part of the redevelopment of the garden.
Subsequently, Her Royal Highness visited the cacti garden, the aquatic garden with a view over the future space of medicinal plants.
HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa was also briefed on the space where the Moroccan ecosystems will be displayed, the platform for cultural activities and the future collection of Moroccan bulbs.
On her arrival at the “Jardin d'Essais Botaniques” of Rabat, HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa reviewed a section of the auxiliary forces that paid the honors, and was greeted notably by minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests, Aziz Akhannouch, minister delegate to the Interior minister, Noureddine Boutayeb, and chairman of the executive board of “Crédit Agricole du Maroc” Group, Tarik Sijelmassi.
Located in the heart of the city of Rabat, the botanical garden, inscribed on the list of the national historic heritage in 1992, is the capital’s largest and most scenic green space. It is classified under the UNESCO World Heritage of Humanity label.
