November 19th of each year is an opportunity to highlight the multiple initiatives of HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa, Chairwoman of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, in favor of the development and dissemination of environmental culture.
Her Royal Highness' leadership in climate action is confirmed from year to year, with pioneering and innovative initiatives and projects that have greatly contributed to raising awareness among future generations about the importance of protecting the planet from climate change.
Lalla Hasnaa's latest action took place last Wednesday, when Her Royal Highness chaired the awarding ceremony of the Lalla Hasnaa Sustainable Coast Trophies in its third edition (2019), which rewards the best initiatives in favor of coasts.
During this year, Her Royal Highness conducted intense activities reflecting her interest in environmental protection issues, as well as matters relating to the social, cultural and diplomatic fields.
Her Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa's resolute action and commitment to the environmental cause earned her the title of Doctor honoris causa, which was awarded to her on 27 November 2018 in Kyoto, Japan, by Ritsumeikan University.
This distinction came just four days after Her Royal Highness received the GOI Peace 2018 International Prize in Tokyo, awarded annually by the GOI Peace Foundation to pay tribute to a person's work or influence for the development of a sustainable and peaceful world.
Princess Lalla Hasnaa's visit to Japan was also an opportunity for Her Royal Highness to meet with His Imperial Highness Naruhito, Crown Prince of Japan, and to receive the Japanese minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Masahiko Shibayama, as well as several Japanese women leaders in different fields, to visit the Omori School in Tokyo, and attend a dinner offered in her honor by the Mayor of Kyoto, Daisaku Kadokawa.
In December 2018, HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa chaired the Board of directors of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, as well as the annual charity diplomatic Gala dinner, organized by the embassy of the People's Republic of China and the diplomatic Foundation.
On February 18, 2019, HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa, honorary President of the Association for Human Development "Hassanate", presided over the inauguration ceremony of the "Massira II" Urban Health Centre in Témara after its renovation.
On this occasion, Her Royal Highness chaired the signing ceremony of two partnership agreements. The first concerns the renovation of four health centres in El Jadida province, while the second aims to contribute to the actions to upgrade the health centres carried out by the "Hassanate" association.
HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa presided over, on April 9 of the same year at the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMVI) in Rabat, the inauguration of the exhibition "The Colors of impressionism: masterpieces from the collections of the Musée d'Orsay", held under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI and President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron.
On June 14, Her Royal Highness the Princess chaired the opening ceremony of the 25th Fez Festival of World Sacred Music, organized under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, under the theme "Fez, at the confluence of cultures", in the "Bab Al Makina" historic square.
HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa presided over, on 18 June in Bouknadel, the inauguration ceremony of the Hassan II International Environmental Training Centre, a facility dedicated entirely to raising awareness and environmental education among children, civil society actors, businesses, the administration and local authorities.
One of Princess Lalla Hasnaa's activities during the current year was Her Royal Highness' remarkable participation in the United Nations Climate Action Summit, held on 23 September at the UN headquarters in New York, during which Her Royal Highness read out a Royal Message addressed to this global forum.
Intended to increase global mobilization in combating climate change, this major ecological event was an occasion to launch by HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa the African Youth Climate Hub, a major initiative to mobilize the voices of young people from developing countries in the fight against climate change.
HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa held, on the sidelines of the United Nations Climate Action Summit, talks with, notably, the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Patricia Espinoza, the Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Achim Steiner, and the Director-General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay.
Through her many actions and initiatives, HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa confirms her strong involvement and infallible commitment to the promotion of multidimensional sustainable development that meets the needs of present and future generations, in line with the vision of HM King Mohammed VI.
