Police patrols had gone to the "Derb Kabir" residential area in Casablanca to arrest people involved in an exchange of violence between individuals from the same neighbourhood due to occasional conflicts, before two of them, from the same family, returned home and began insulting and defaming police officers, accusing one of them of complicity with a trafficker of narcotics and psychotropic substances, according to a statement by the national police (DGSN), stating that these accusations were documented by video footage recorded by a family member of the two suspects.

The search procedures led to the arrest of one of the suspects, while his relative is still at large, the statement added, noting that the investigations carried out revealed that the police officer accused of complicity with the drug trafficker was not involved in the security intervention and that the alleged trafficker was currently in prison following his arrest by the judicial police for drug possession and trafficking.

The individual has been placed in police custody to complete the investigation conducted under the supervision of the competent prosecutor's office, while searches are still under way to apprehend the second suspect involved in the defamation and insult of civil servants and denunciation of a fictitious crime, the statement concluded.
