Eleven new deaths from coronavirus complications were reported, bringing the total number of fatalities to 58, while nine other people have recovered which rises to 65 the total number of recoveries, Director of epidemiology at the ministry of Health, Mohamed El Youbi, pointed out in a statement broadcast by MAP on its M24 channel and RIM radio.
According to El Youbi, 3,304 suspected cases were excluded following negative tests.
Regarding the geographical spread of the virus, Casablanca-Settat is the worst-hit region, ahead of Marrakech-Safi, Rabat-Salé-Kenitra and Fez-Meknes, he said, noting that no case has been reported so far in the region of Dakhla-Oued Eddahab.
The city of Casablanca is the hardest-hit one, ahead of Marrakech, Rabat, Meknes and Fez, he added, noting that men represent 53% of cases against 47% for women.
The average age for covid-19 cases is 52, he said.
Foreign infection cases represent 20% of the total of cases, while local infection cases increased to reach 80%, he said, adding that 130 cases were confirmed among people who had contacts with covid-19 cases.
According to him, 3,119 people who had contacts with confirmed cases are under medical surveillance.
The official underlined the need to observe precautionary measures issued by the public authorities to stop the spread of the pandemic.
