Over 25,800 People Brought to Justice for Violation of Health Emergency Rules

Rabat - A total of 25,857 people have been brought to justice in Morocco for violation of health emergency rules, including 1,566 who were under arrest when brought to justice, since the entry into force on March 24 of Decree No. 2.20.292 and until Friday, April 17, at 4 p.m., the presidency of the public prosecutor said.

According to the same source, 2,593 were prosecuted for not wearing a protective mask.

As regards the total number of those brought to justice, the source said it concerns 25,203 adults and 654 minors.

Out of this total, 25,068 are men and 789 are women, it added.

With regards to the fight against fake news, the public prosecutor's offices opened 93 judicial investigations which led to the prosecution of 70 people, including 19 under arrest, while other investigations are underway.

Moroccan courts have sentenced some of the people accused of violation of health emergency rules to prison terms and fines.

Given its role in the preservation of public order and the security of citizens, the public prosecution assures that it will not hesitate to apply the law against all offenders who endanger the life of citizens, the source pointed out.
