The number of cured people has risen, until Wednesday at 6 p.m., to 417 (24 additional recoveries), while the number of fatalities has increased to 149 with 4 new deaths, said director of Epidemiology and Disease Control at the ministry of Health, Mohamed El Youbi, in a statement broadcast by MAP on its TV channel M24 and on RIM RADIO.
Most of the cases reported in recent hours concern a large outbreak in Ouarzazate, where 120 Covid-19 contaminations have been recorded, he explained, noting that this cluster alone has 186 confirmed cases so far.
For the other outbreaks, he added, no cases of infection have been reported except that of Tangier with 16 new cases out of a total of 46 contaminations.
By region, Casablanca-Settat and Marrakech-Safi account for 27% and 22% of all confirmed cases respectively. It should be noted that 8% of cases have now been recorded in the region of DrĂ¢a Tafilalet after an outbreak in Ouarzazate.
The director noted that apart from this finding, no significant change was observed in the epidemiological situation at the regional level.
For the average age of cases, there has been a slight decrease to around 41 years, he noted, adding that the 40-60 age group accounts for 38% of total cases, followed by the 25-40 group (up 30%).
In the same vein, El Youbi pointed out that the mortality rate among people with the virus is 4.3%.
He further reported that medical follow-up of contact persons remains the most frequent procedure for the detection of cases of disease. Of the 237 new confirmed cases, 90% (213) were diagnosed through medical monitoring of contacts.
A total of 1974 cases have been detected to date as a result of the surveillance effort of people who have been in contact with patients, he said, pointing out that 6,655 contact persons are still under control.
