The central observation and computer monitoring unit for the fight against fake news had traced a photo, published on social networks, showing an individual exposing a young girl to a violent robbery on the street, the national police (DGSN) said in a statement, noting that the photo was accompanied by a comment suggesting that the scene took place in Morocco and that a criminal network was targeting female citizens, assaulting them as they were withdrawing money from bank machines.

The technical expertise carried out on the photo revealed that the robbery operation took place more than two years ago in a Latin American country, the DGSN added, explaining that the investigations conducted into this case made it possible to identify and question the individual responsible for this publication in El Jadida.

The suspect was placed in police custody to complete the judicial investigation conducted under the supervision of the competent prosecutor's office, in order to determine the ins and outs of these criminal acts, as well as the reasons behind the dissemination of this digital content, which affects the safety and security of citizens.
