The national security services, in coordination with the Directorate general of territorial surveillance (DGST), had arrested the suspect with multiple priors for fraud after he had used a forged identity document and passport to rent two apartments, according to a statement by the national police (DGSN), stating that the investigation carried out by the security services revealed that the identity document belonged to a person convicted in a criminal case and that the passport had been acquired from an individual involved in a case of theft by kidnapping.
The use of these falsified identity documents was intended to evade security pursuit, as he was the subject of three wanted notices issued by the national security services and the Gendarmerie Royale of Tetouan in cases related to the organization of illegal immigration and fraud.
Investigations have also revealed that the suspect is also involved in impersonating a foreign diplomat in order to defraud people who wanted to obtain a visa for one of the European countries, as well as exposing other victims to the scam after he led them to believe that he had set up a fictitious luxury car rental company before getting his hands on large sums of money, the same source added.
Searches of the suspect's home resulted in the seizure of an electronic copying and printing device, forged bank documents and false identity documents suspected of being used for criminal purposes, said the DGSN.
The suspect has been placed in police custody to complete the preliminary investigation conducted under the supervision of the competent prosecutor's office, while investigations are under way to identify possible persons involved in this criminal activity, the statement concluded.
