Under this agreement covering the period 2020-2021 signed between CNDH president Amina Bouayach, and UNFPA representative Luis Mora, the two parties will collaborate to strengthen the advocacy to fight against the practice of child marriage, promote the rights to sexual and reproductive health and reinforce mobilization for the implementation of recommendations by international instruments in this area, said on Thursday a joint statement.
This collaboration will foster the contribution of both parties to efforts to end child marriage with the aim of enabling them to fully achieve their potential and optimize their participation in human development and wealth creation, it said.
This intervention is based on the results of the awareness-raising campaign launched by the CNDH: "Marriage of minors: Abolish the exception ... restore the standard", to strengthen the mobilization of all stakeholders in the different regions of Morocco for a community charter aimed at stopping child marriage, underlined the same source.
The CNDH campaign responds to the measures of the National Action Plan in the field of democracy and human rights, which provides for the continuation of social dialogue on the revision of article 20 of the Family Law, said the same source, adding that it resulted in the organization, regionally and nationally, of a series of awareness-raising activities aimed at the abolition of child marriage.
