Two new coronavirus-related deaths were reported in the same period, bringing the total number of fatalities to 183, while 179 new recoveries were registered, which rises to 2,017 the total number of recovered covid-19 patients, Director of epidemiology at the ministry of Health, Mohamed El Youbi, pointed out in a statement broadcast by MAP on its M24 channel and RIM radio.
The death rate (the percentage of deaths caused by the virus among the total number of confirmed cases) is constantly decreasing (3.4%), compared to global 7%, he added.
The total number of suspected cases that were excluded following negative tests has reached 47,550 since the start of the epidemic, El Youbi said, noting that 3,199 suspected cases were dismissed over the past 24 hours.
In this regard, he noted that the majority of the new cases (162 out of 189) were detected through the medical follow-up of people who had contact with confirmed cases (86%), adding that 9,310 of people who had contact with Covid-19 cases are under medical surveillance so far.
Regarding the geographical spread of the virus, Casablanca-Settat is still the hardest hit region with the highest number of confirmed cases (26%), followed by Marrakech-Safi (21%), Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, Fez-Meknes and Draa-Tafilalet, he said.
