Considered the precursor of urban industrial design in Morocco, Hicham Lahlou imagined and reinterpreted an Oryx that Daum has enhanced with its crystal paste.
"With this Oryx I wanted to honor my African origins through an emblematic animal of the savannah (…) . To present it in a limited edition in the prestigious Art Edition catalogue of the great French brand Daum is a real recognition," said Lahlou on this occasion.
An emblematic figure of the emerging new generation of design of which he has been a part for more than two decades, Hicham Lahlou is considered the flag bearer of Moroccan national design and one of the flag bearers of African design. This world-renowned artist has signed major projects and collections published by prestigious international brands such as DAUM, Ecart International, Lip, Aquamass, CITCO Italy, HAVILAND and the Africa Design Award & Days (ADA, ADD) project that he founded in 2014 and directs as one of the leaders of African Design.
His creations are regularly exhibited in museums such as the Vitra Design Museum, the Guggenheim Bilbao, the Kunsthal Rotterdam, the High Museum Atlanta Usa, or the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.
In 2016, Lahlou was awarded the distinction of Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Republic. He was elected member of the Board of Directors of the World Design Organization (WDO) at the 30th General Assembly and the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the organization in Turin, Italy on October 14 and 15, 2017. He thus becomes the first Moroccan, from the MENA Region, and the first West African and Francophone African elected in the 62-year history of WDO, founded on June 29, 1957.
