Toulal 2 Local Prison: Suicide of Detainee under Anti-terrorism Law (Statement)

Rabat - The administration of the local prison Toulal 2 announced that a prisoner called H.S., detained in this facility under the law relating to the fight against terrorism, committed suicide by hanging himself in his cell, Sunday around 9 p.m., using a fabric from his clothes that he tied to the window bars.

In a statement, the prison administration stated that the deceased was regularly taking prescribed medication for mental and psychological illnesses, that he was monitored by the prison medical team and that he was entitled to constant family visits, stressing that his behaviour with staff and inmates was "normal" and that he was to be released on 25 July 2020, after serving a 10-year sentence.

The competent public prosecutor's office and the family of the deceased were informed of his death in accordance with the law on the organization and functioning of penitentiary institutions, concluded the statement.
