The majority of the new cases recorded in the past 24 hours were discovered mainly in the region of Rabat-Salé-Kenitra, followed by the regions of Casablanca-Settat, Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, Marrakech-Safi and, to a lesser extent, Fez-Meknes, said El Youbi.
Among the 137 new cases, 121 were discovered thanks to the medical monitoring of people who had contact with confirmed cases (89%), he pointed out.
Regarding the geographical spread of the virus, Casablanca-Settat remains the worst hit region with the highest number of cases, followed by Marrakech-Safi region, Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, Fez-Meknes, Rabat-Salé-Kenitra and Draa-Tafilalet.
A total of 2,698 suspected cases were excluded in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of cases dismissed after negative tests to 65,397 since the start of the pandemic, he said.
The death rate fell to 2.9% while the recovery rate rose to 46.6%, he added.
According to El Youbi, 56% of Covid-19 patients are are men, and 44% are women.
The official noted a drop in the average age of confirmed cases which has reached 34.5 years, knowing that this average has been 54.8 years since the start of the pandemic.
El Youbi explained that those who are currently contracting the virus are young people who do not strictly observe lockdown measures, noting that this is due to the discovery of new clusters in some cities.
