Despite the difficult context of the health crisis, "the agro-food export sector has performed well. Indeed, exports of vegetable products have reached during this season to 9 May 2020 (according to the calendar adopted by Morocco Foodex from 1 September to 9 May corresponding to the agricultural calendar) a volume of about 1,077,000 tons, up 6% compared to the last season stopped at the same date (1,012,000 tons)," said a statement by the ministry.
Tomato exports have experienced on May 9, 2020 an increase of about 4% compared to the previous season from 492,000 tons to 514,000 tons on the same date, the source added, noting that exports of green beans have reached a volume of about 112,000 tons, against about 102,000 tons during the previous season, posting an increase of 10%.
The red fruits recorded remarkable growth during this campaign. Indeed, the exports of fresh red fruits reached during this campaign a volume of about 82,500 tons on May 9, 2020, posting an increase of 25% compared to the last campaign on the same date (66,000 tons).
The ministry also reported the good performance recorded in the export of watermelon whose volume reached about 104,400 tons during this campaign to May 9, 2020, i.e. an increase of about 61% compared to the previous campaign on the same date (65,000 tons).
Avocado exports during this season as at 9 May reached a volume of around 32,800 tons, i.e. almost three times the volume recorded during the previous season on the same date (11,200 tons).
With regard to citrus fruits, and while noting the maintenance of a good level of prices on international markets, a drop in export volumes in the order of 28% was recorded during this campaign due to the fall in production.
In addion, exports of processed agricultural products excluding sugar and its preparations reached during this season to 9 May a volume of about 299,000 tons, against 255,800 tons during last season, i.e. a growth of about 17%, the same source noted.
