This project for the manufacture of protective masks in production units within penal institutions has received financial support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as part of the cooperation linking it to the General Delegation for Penal Administration and Reintegration (DGAPR), said Wednesday a joint statement of the two bodies.
This collaboration, added the same source, is meant to contribute to the prevention of COVID-19 by equipping workshops to make protective masks and train prisoners in new clothing techniques and adapted practices required by the labour market, thus prepare them for reintegration.
All stages of production are subject to the controls in force and comply with the health standards adopted nationally.
This innovative initiative, initiated by the DGAPR, has enabled inmates to enhance their know-how and contribute to the efforts to stem the spread of the pandemic, the statement concluded.
