Covid-19: 228 New Cases Confirmed in Morocco, 466 Recoveries in 24 Hours (Ministry)

Rabat - Two hundred twenty-eight (228) new cases of coronavirus infection (Covid-19) and four hundred sixty-six (466) recoveries have been recorded in Morocco in the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Health announced on Tuesday.

This new figure brings to 14,607 the number of contaminations in the Kingdom since the declaration of the first case on March 2, and to 10,639 the number of people who fully recovered, that is a recovery rate of about 73%, said the head of the Epidemic Diseases Division at the Department of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Health Hind Ezzine.

The death toll has reached 240, with three deaths recorded in the past 24 hours, that is a fatality rate of 1.6%, she added.

Regarding the geographic distribution of new cases, 47 new cases were identified in the Casablanca-Settat region (38 cases in Casablanca and 9 in Mediouna), 44 cases in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region (19 cases in Tétouan, 10 in Tangier, 9 in Fahs, 5 in Ouezzane, 1 in Mdiq), 41 in the region of Fez-Meknès (41 cases in Fez), 28 in the region of Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra (28 in Laâyoune), 22 cases in the Guelmim-Oued-Noun region (17 in Tan Tan, 4 Guelmim, 1 Assa Zag) and 21 cases in the Marrakech-Safi region (8 in Safi, 7 in El Haouz and 6 in Marrakech), said the official.

In addition, 11 cases were recorded in the eastern region (11 in Jerrada), 9 cases in the Béni-Mellal-Khénifra region (9 in Khenifra), 5 cases in the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region (5 in Sidi Slimane), while the other regions have not registered any new cases, she said.

Referring to the contact person tracking system, the official noted that it had enabled the detection of 206 cases of the 228 new ones, a total of 90.3%, adding that their number has currently reached 78,455, of which 16,521 are still under medical surveillance, while the number of cases excluded after negative test results was 786,722.

Regarding active cases, Ezzine noted that 3,728 patients are currently under treatment, including 16 in intensive care and 4 intubated and receiving the necessary care.

The ministry invites citizens to mandatory compliance with preventive measures, notably the correct wearing of face masks, regular hand washing, social distancing and the use of the "wiqaytna application "as well as the regular activation of Bluetooth to ensure the tracking of contact persons, she concluded.
