The first vehicle was intercepted at the entrance to the city of Ait Melloul, National Police (DGSN) said in a statement, adding that a quantity of 2.34 tons of cannabis resin was seized while the driver of the vehicle, aged 52, was arrested.

Elements of the judicial police also intercepted a similar vehicle in the region of "Klia", 30 km from the city of Ait Melloul, and seized 1.74 ton of cannabis resin that was hidden in the vehicle.

In addition to the 4.85 tons of cannabis resin, sums of money and mobile phones used in this criminal activity were also seized, the source added.

The suspect was placed on custody, while investigations are underway under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor's office to identify all the people involved in these criminal activities.
