The fire has destroyed 54 hectares of vegetation, the source added.
"The fire that broke out Thursday at 3 p.m. in the Ghiraya Forest was brought under control the same day at 9 p.m. and was totally contained on Friday morning, thanks to an effective ground intervention coordinated by all the stakeholders," the Regional Directorate pointed out in a release.
No human casualties were reported, but the environmental damage caused by the fire is considerable, including destruction of houses, loss of biodiversity and deregulation of the water regime, according to the same source.
The Regional Directorate underlines the need to stay vigilant and adopt eco-friendly attitudes to protect forests against fires.
