The 24-member body renewed half of its members during the 8th session of the General Assembly of the States Parties to the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, held on September 8 through 10 at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris.
Morocco was elected in the person of permanent representative of the Kingdom to the UNESCO, Samir Addahre, for a four year mandate.
It is a first for Morocco to be represented at the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage, whose core functions are to promote the objectives of the Convention, provide guidance on best practices and make recommendations on measures for the safeguarding of the intangible cultural heritage.
The Committee examines requests submitted by States Parties for the inscription of intangible heritage on the Lists as well as proposals for programs and projects. The Committee is also in charge of granting international assistance.
