"The next UNWTO General Assembly will be historic. We will do our best to make it one of the most successful post-pandemic events," Pololikashvili said in a statement to MAP on the sidelines of the 112th session of the Executive Council of this UN specialized agency, in which Morocco took part.
In this context, he said that the Marrakech meeting will be an opportunity to discuss the future of the tourism sector which was hit hard by the health crisis, inviting all the member states of the organization as well as the private sector to attend it.
The UNWTO Secretary General also stressed that Morocco is "an excellent destination" to promote and "a model" in the tourism sector, highlighting the Kingdom's great experience in the field as well as its infrastructure.
Morocco was designated as the host country for the UNWTO 24th General Assembly during the previous meeting held last September in Saint Petersburg, Russia, by 76 votes out of 107 votes, against 15 for the Philippines and 13 for Kenya.
The UNWTO General Assembly takes place every two years. It is one of the most important events for the international tourism sector.
The 112th session of the organization's Executive Council, which brings together around thirty Member States, is an occasion to share experiences in crisis management linked to the pandemic, to coordinate the actions of governments and to clarify the future directions for international tourism recovery.
