This program, with a budget of $ 5 million, will contribute to strengthening the efforts made by the ministry for the implementation of framework law 51-17 on education, training and scientific research, especially the section relating to the initial training of elementary education teachers.
The HEP-M program will be implemented over the next five years by Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College at Arizona State University, in collaboration with universities and regional education and training centers (CRMEFs).
As part of this partnership, the Moroccan universities will benefit from support in terms of strengthening their institutional capacities, as well as upgrading their human resources for the implementation of the new initial training program for elementary teachers "Bachelor in Education" within the CRMEFs.
Teachers will be equipped with skills to improve their teaching practices and meet the learning needs of students.
Speaking at the official launch ceremony, Minister of National Education, Vocational Training, Higher Education and Scientific Research, government spokesperson, Saaid Amzazi highlighted the need to build the skills of elementary teachers and initiate them to remote learning techniques, as well as new information and communication technologies.
In addition, the government official praised the fruitful cooperation between the ministry and USAID, adding that this program falls within the framework of the prospects for the education system reform.
For his part, the Deputy Minister in charge of higher education and scientific research, Driss Ouaouicha, affirmed that elementary teachers represent the basis of the education system, welcoming the efforts made by USAID under this program for the promotion of education.
For his part, US Ambassador to Morocco David Fisher said the Higher Education Partnership Program in Morocco will lay the groundwork for a new system for training trainers, thus providing the Kingdom with a new generation of highly qualified teachers.
