In statements to the press following a meeting with Head of Government Saad Dine El Otmani on the latest developments in the Guergarate buffer zone, leaders of several political parties underlined that this decision will allow the resumption of civil and commercial movements through this crossing while securing the buffer zone.
They also welcomed the success of this operation, which was carried out without direct contact between the Royal Armed Forces and the separatist militias, and in full compliance with the ceasefire agreement.
In this regard, Secretary General of the Authenticity and Modernity Party, Abdellatif Ouahbi, welcomed the wise decision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI regarding the buffer zone of Guergarate. This decision allowed "the settlement of the situation in the region," he said.
"Once again, Morocco proved that it is indeed on its land and that the actions of the separatists will not affect the territorial integrity of the Kingdom," he added. "Morocco will not give up an inch of its Sahara," Ouahbi stated.
As for Mohamed Nabil Benabdallah, Secretary General of the Party for Progress and Socialism, he stressed that "Morocco, under the leadership of HM the King, took today a decision on defending the international legitimacy and territorial integrity, after a long period of restraint." The Kingdom has acted responsibly in response to successive provocations by the polisario in an attempt to impose a fait accompli in the area between southern Morocco and Mauritania, he said.
For his part, Secretary General of the Popular Movement Party Mohand Laenser said that Morocco has taken all the necessary measures to ensure the success of this operation. The Kingdom had informed the United Nations and a number of countries of the provocations of the polisario in the region, which blocked the road in the buffer zone of Guergarate, he explained.
"This is not a war, but rather an operation to ensure normal traffic between Morocco and the African continent," Laenser said, adding that this process reinforces the ceasefire agreement "because there was no harm to civilians or direct contact with the separatist militias."
According to the Secretary General of the Istiqlal Party, Nizar Baraka, this decision "has resolved the problem of transit between Morocco and Mauritania, and guaranteed the right of citizens of both countries to move through the crossing of Guergarate."
Baraka noted that this decision also aims to ensure security and peace in the region, as well as the rights agreed upon under the ceasefire agreement.
The meeting between the Head of Government and the leaders of political parties was held in the presence of HM the King's Advisor Fouad Ali El Himma, the Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad Nasser Bourita.
