"The American decision corrects anomalies and marks a turning point in the process aimed at reaching a solution to the regional dispute," said columnist Clara Riveros, for whom Morocco has shown, under the leadership of HM the King, "a great strategist", that one can achieve convincing results thanks to an effective diplomacy.
"This decision, which is the result of pragmatic and realistic diplomacy, is a setback for some who have been living, in recent weeks, on skirmishes, imaginary wars and virtual victories," noted the think tank, adding that the Morocco is playing on another ground, opting for the smart path and favoring the peaceful way, with a strategic perspective based on diplomacy.
Noting that the American president recalled that Morocco was the first country to recognize the United States in 1777, the Colombian institute underlined that this historical significance corroborates the long-standing character of the Moroccan state, before the drawing of borders and before the Spanish colonization of the Sahara. As some international documents and treaties indicate, sovereignty already existed over the entire territory of the Sahara, the author explained.
The Kingdom is today reaping the fruits of a long-term diplomatic work to bring the United States to recognize the Moroccanness of the Sahara and to support the autonomy plan as the only solution to the regional dispute, a decision with a global impact because the country is a permanent member of the UN Security Council, said Riveros.
