"Thanks to its geographical location, the great potential it offers and the prospects for growth, the city of Dakhla has become an important place", Bourita told reporters at the end of the inauguration ceremony of the Consulate General of the Republic of Haiti in the southern city.
The inauguration of the Haitian consulate, which is part of the process undertaken by HM King Mohammed VI for the consecration of the Moroccanness of the Sahara, should be followed next week by the opening of one or two other consulates in Dakhla, he said, recalling that the United States of America has also expressed its intention to open a consulate in the city.
Other consulates will be opened as part of the consecration of the Moroccanness of the Sahara, he said.
For his part, the Ambassador of Haiti to Canada, Weibert Arthus, underlined that the opening of this diplomatic representation is of great importance, as it reflects the support of the Republic of Haiti for the Moroccanness of the Sahara so as to bring the peoples of the two countries closer together.
The Embassy of the Republic of Haiti in Morocco was inaugurated on Saturday in Rabat. The two countries signed, on this occasion, two agreements, namely a cooperation roadmap for the 2021-2023 period and a memorandum of understanding in the area of diplomatic training.
Since the beginning of the year, the city of Dakhla has experienced a strong diplomatic dynamic with the inauguration of the consulates of Gambia, Guinea, the Republic of Djibouti, the Republic of Liberia, Burkina Faso and the Republic of Guinea Bissau, in addition to the Republic of Equatorial Guinea.
