In an article by Chilean news website El Periodista, Rojas Marín noted that this decision is based on a set of historical and social factors that will serve peace and stability in the Middle East.
He also recalled that the relations between Morocco and Israel are not recent and that a considerable number of Moroccan Jews live in Israel "constituting a continuous bridge between the two countries." In addition, he noted that this rapprochement would not affect Morocco's firm commitment to defending the Palestinian cause.
In this context, the former minister pointed to the telephone conversation between HM King Mohammed VI and the president of the Palestinian National Authority, Mahmoud Abbas Abu Mazen, during which the Monarch reiterated the Kingdom's support for the Palestinian cause and assured that this rapprochement between Morocco and Israel is meant to serve peace in the Middle East.
According to him, Morocco always treated the Palestinian and the Moroccan Sahara issues on the same footing, noting that HM the King affirmed that reinforcing the Moroccanness of the Sahara will never be to the detriment of the Palestinian people's struggle for their legitimate rights.
The Chilean university professor noted that the US decision to recognize the Moroccan full sovereignty over its Sahara aims at consolidating peace and cooperation in a region in need of stability and dialogue for development.
