Speaking at the 41st Ordinary Session of the Permanent Representatives Committee (PRC) of the AU, Morocco's Permanent Representative to the AU and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), Ambassador Mohamed Arrouchi noted that good administrative and financial governance is essential to contribute to the efficiency of the intergovernmental process, whose ultimate goal is to serve the vital interests of African citizens.
During the third day of this PRC session, held virtually, the Moroccan diplomat highlighted the low rate of implementation of AU programs, which only reached 56%, while the financial implementation rate reached only 74%.
In his capacity as first Vice-Chairperson of the PRC Sub-Committee on Audit matters, Arrouchi stressed the importance of auditing to report on the efficiency of management and control processes in order to strengthen good governance within the institution.
Such governance can only be achieved through the strict monitoring of the accountability process regarding the dysfunctions observed, as an essential element to provide the Organization with strong, stable and efficient structures, according to the diplomat, who led the Moroccan delegation to this session.
The 41st Ordinary Session of the PRC that kicked off Wednesday was held in preparation for the 34th Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU) which will take place on 6 and 7 February 2021, under the theme "Arts, Culture and Heritage: Levers for Building the Africa We Want."
