During the proceedings of the 155th session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the level of Foreign Ministers, which kicked off Wednesday in Cairo, Minister Delegate to Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Nezha El Ouafi, stressed the need to safeguard the religious specificity of the holy city of Al-Quds as well as its legal status.
"It has become urgent to step up efforts to break the deadlock in the peace process and re-inject momentum into the negotiations between the Palestinian and Israeli sides on the basis of the two-state solution advocated by the international community," El Ouafi said.
The minister delegate also highlighted Morocco's support to the process of resolving the ongoing conflict in Libya and its call for supporting the draft resolution on "monitoring developments in Libya" on the basis of the Skhirate Agreement and in combination with all the initiatives aimed at supporting security, stability and development in this country.
Since 2011, the Arab League has launched an important initiative to reform and develop mechanisms and institutions for joint Arab action. Ten years later, this project is still in the process of being finalized, despite the urgency of implementing its content in light of international and regional changes, El Ouafi observed.
Morocco, which has been committed from the outset in this reform project, stresses the importance of completing the final versions of the reform and development documents in full compliance with the decisions made by the higher bodies of the Arab action system, she continued.
Fulfilling this objective requires "a real political will to bring about the desired positive change in the Arab world, away from circumstantial conflicts and artificial differences," El Ouafi concluded.
