"I believe it is important to grasp this historic opportunity to finally establish a lasting peace for everyone in the south of Morocco, in the Sahara, and establish new relations of prosperity and sustainability in order for the Kingdom to be a bridge between the Arc Atlantique and Europe," Maurer highlighted following a meeting with the Consul General of Morocco in Strasbourg, Driss El Kaissi.
"I invite all people of goodwill to take a deep interest in the (American decision) because history does not repeat itself and we might regret such an opportunity if it is not grasped," he underlined.
The meeting with the Consul General of Morocco also focused on ways to reinforce the inter-community and intercultural dialogue between Alsace and Morocco.
"Relations between Alsace and Morocco are historic and I am very pleased with the partnerships I maintain with all local associations," Maurer noted.
"I hope that this relation can deepen and broaden further because we have both a convergent discourse and then the future belongs to those who know how to build it," he added.
Maurer also took the opportunity to hail the dynamism of the strong Moroccan community present in his department which constitutes "a driving force".
