Zambia has appointed its "best diplomats" to work in these two diplomatic representations, head of Zambian diplomacy said at a press briefing following talks in Rabat with Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans abroad, Nasser Bourita.

Malanji dismissed allegations relayed by the Algerian media of a withdrawal of the Zambian consulate in Laayoune, saying that his country is a "sovereign state" that communicates through official and government channels and does not give excitement to allegations relayed through social networks."

"The inauguration of the Zambian embassy on October 24, 2020, our independence day, is a clear indication on the trajectory of our relations," noted Zambia's top diplomat, who is on a working visit to Morocco. This representation will focus on the development of economic cooperation between the two countries, he stated.

According to Malanji, this cooperation is increasing both at the bilateral leveland multilateral fora "where we have mutual cooperation, on the principles that are dear to both countries and also with regard to the submission of candidacies in international organizations."

The minister welcomed Morocco's initiative, which is "graciously" hosting more than 300 Zambian students, who received scholarships to study in various institutions of higher education.

He also thanked the Government of Morocco for its role in supporting "our ambition" to have a representation in the Kingdom, saying he believes that with the Moroccan Embassy in Lusaka, "we now have a shared mechanism to advance our bilateral cooperation."

Talks between Bourita and Malanji took place in the presence of the chargé d'affaires of the Republic of Zambia, Eliphas Chinyonga and the Consul of this country in Laayoune, Kelvin Malisase, who were installed in their new missions.
