On a visit to Morocco for opening a national office of UN-Habitat in Rabat and signing the 2020-2023 UN-Habitat country program, Mohd Sharif said that ''she is impressed by the achievements of the Kingdom in the field of slum elimination, the revamping of run-down houses, the development of housing programs that meet the needs of the population and the creation of new cities, open to new technologies and modern requirements of urban planning as well as the great dynamics of human development in the Kingdom,'' according to a statement from the Department of the Head of Government.
On this occasion, Mohd Sharif highlighted the promising prospects for cooperation between Morocco and the UN-Habitat, particularly in human development and climate change as well as opportunities of sharing experiences and best practices in the region.
Head of Government, Saad Dine El Otmani, said that the cooperation between the Kingdom and the UN-Habitat will grow stronger with the opening of the UN-Habitat office in Rabat, through coordination on ways to support efforts and priorities of the government in areas of interest.
El Otmani highlighted several projects initiated by the Kingdom under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI in the field of socio-economic development, particularly the generalization of health coverage, family allowances, retirement, and compensation for loss of employment, which represents a social revolution.
The Head of Government also underlined efforts made by the Kingdom to address the challenges of water resources supply for the population, their preservation, and sustainability, as well as the advances made by the country in the fields of sustainable development and renewable energy, a part of integrated national strategies that Morocco is keen to share with countries, especially in the African continent.
