Laftit was speaking at a Ministerial Conference on the Management of Migration Flows, organized under the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union, in the presence of several European, Maghrebian and African ministers, European Commissioners and representatives of several international organizations.
The objective of this meeting, which was attended by minister of the Interior by videoconference, is to promote dialogue on migration between countries of origin, transit and destination and to consolidate mutually beneficial partnerships, said a statement by the Interior Ministry.
In this regard, Laftit recalled the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, who through His Humanistic and Innovative Vision and His Unprecedented Initiatives, has established Moroccan migration governance as a regional model.
The Minister also emphasized the need to anticipate the effects of the current health crisis and their socio-economic consequences that will inevitably impact migration flows. In this sense, he called to establish a concerted approach between the countries of both shores of the Mediterranean, as a priori to the development and implementation of coordinated and consistent migration strategies.
Laftit also recalled the role of major partner that Morocco plays in terms of regional security and its significant efforts in the fight against all forms of cross-border crime.
In this context, he stressed the need for all countries in the region to assume their responsibilities in order to meet the challenge of collective security, concluded the statement.
