The main suspect, a 62-year-old driver, was arrested during a joint security operation carried out by the National Security and Customs services, following his arrival at the Tangier-Med port from the Spanish port of Algeciras, National Police (DGSN) said in a statement, adding that search operations led to the seizure of these record quantities of drugs which were concealed in the suspect’s car.

The suspect was placed on custody, pending investigations led by the prefectural service of the judicial police of Tangier under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor's office.

This security operation is part of the intense efforts made by national police to fight against international drug trafficking, in particular psychotropic tablets introduced from Europe.
